Re: This is what I see coming

TN Explorer - point taken. I know I’ll never be a Zeppelin or Picasso of fishing. And I probably don’t have 20 years left to know what so many on this forum have learned. But if I can learn all I can and then pass it on to my kids and grandkids so they are more successful than me - I will consider t...

Re: This is what I see coming

Fran, Thanks for your post, brother. Like you, I have overwhelming capacity in my electronics that have taken me 2 years to begin to skim the surface of understanding. And, I learn after reading Buck’s book and study guides that my boat is overpriced and under performing. But I am determined to foll...

Re: Interpretation: Harrison Bay, Minnetonka

Thanks gentlemen, Yes, I primarily fish Minnetonka. My boat sits at a marina on West Arm. I picked Harrison because it is close to my marina, the water color is good and it’s quieter from boat traffic. The main exercise was to look at a map and decide how I want to fish the structure and learn the b...

Re: Obsessed??????????

Is it obsession if you can’t get back to sleep for an hour after you get up to pee in the middle of the night because your thinking about fishing? Is it obsession if you purposely bug your wife until she tells you to go away for a few hours (so you can fish)? Is it obsession if you buy multiple rod/...

Interpretation: Harrison Bay, Minnetonka

Okay, here is my first shot at interpretation of a bay close to where I launch my boat. I hope the pic comes thru. I appreciate any coaching on my thoughts or comments on anything I’m missing or interpreting incorrectly. Ken Characteristics: - dirtier water compared to majority of lake - deepest wat...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

John,
That is exactly where is was planning. Halsted and Stubbs has similar water color. Halsted is carp infested and I don’t know much about Stubbs. I’ve also caught some very nice walleye in West Arm.

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Thanks John, Yeah, I tend to over-think everything but glad I was on the right track. I’ve been doing some research and there are 3 “bays” on Minnetonka with water clarity averaging about 3’. That’s about the lowest in the 5 county area that I’ve seen so far. The problem is the zebra mussels filteri...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Gents, Okay, I went back and read and re-read pages 135-141 a few times and a couple of light bulbs went off. I also recall Buck giving similar instruction when it came to trees @stay out of the trees”. Perhaps for me the “retaining 10% the first read” my be an exaggeration. How would you approach a...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Thanks John and Steve. Fran gave me the same advice and had a recommendation on a dark lake with shallow weeds. I just wish this ice would melt!

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

I’m mesmerized by all of these posts. The depth of knowledge and willingness to share it is atypical for today’s fishing industry. I appreciate all of the information packed in these short posts. I’m struggling with the “how” to troll the contours in the shallows in order to become a great troller. ...

Thanks Fran, Steve and John.
One of you mentioned Eagle. Besides the Mille Lacs adventure, I have similar stories on Eagle, Minaki and Vermilion. I guess I can’t be lazy anymore. I’ll have to learn boat control. Lol

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Excellent Steve. Thank you. I’m glad we are having a mild winter (so far) in MN because of the chance for early ice out. I can’t wait to get on the water and start trolling 800’s. Ha, just kidding. No, I will concentrate on trolling the shallows in the darker bays with 500’s, 400’s and 250’s - at le...

Re: Mills Lac 2021 fall outing?

Okay, I have to ask. And this is not a question challenging your tools. I sincerely want to know how you do it. I’m new to spoonplugging and have found my entire fishing acumen turned upside down as I dive into the material and watch the videos. My question is how you fish those big waters with smal...

Re: Sitting on the dock of the bay

Thanks Steve. Yes, that is helpful. If I understand you correctly, even though we can map a sharper break that leads to deep water, we still want to locate the breaks in that area which can either be the “spot on the spot” or the migration route markers to get to that sharper break?
