Gary
Let us know how the new Merc works out. A Real World on the water test for Spoonpluggers; not the YouTube infomercial hot air which is worthless to those of us looking for a smooth running outboard for all day trolling.
Good Fishing

Re: pure spoonplugging
John, Thanks for the details on the hook removal! Good information for all of us and having a set of quality wire cutters in the boat is essential. Good looking Tohatsu. Four cycle?? I have always thought a 60 HP outboard would work the best on the Ranger; especially getting the boat on plane. Let u...

Re: OUR SOUL HAS A DESTINATION
Gary, You are correct. Mr. Perry and Tommy Ferencek were born again Christians. Don Dickson is a born again Christian and is alive and well in Florida. Don is makings some very informative Spoonplugging videos on YouTube. One of the things that I remember from Mr. Perry’s funeral service was that he...

Re: Master class in Picture taking!
 John That was a real day of fishing Lake Erie. The fish were in the Shallows. Mr. Perry’s guideline is that the shallows is the depth of water from the shoreline to the 8’ to 10’ depth. Deep water is from there to whatever the deep water is in the water being fished. The smallmouth were up...

Re: Master class in Picture taking!
John you made an excellent observation about Don Dickson and his videos. Don does his Spoonplugging By The Book. Period. The book being the “Green Book”. First time I was in the boat with Terry O’Malley, the first thing I noticed was that he did everything by the Book. The very same thing happened w...

Re: PVC rod storage
Don’t know how this got in pvc rod storage Steve, You are spot on about the teaching style of Don and Tommy. I spent my on the water training with Tommy. Don did through a lot of information at students. We all were newbies back then and it does take a while for real Spoonplugging information to be ...

“Green Book”
Finished spending some long over due time studying the “Green Book” (SPOONPLUGGING: Your Guide to Lunker Catches). The information in the book is priceless. Mr. Perry writes extremely well and does not waste words or our time with the fluff you and I can find in the fishing/outdoor type magazines. (...

Re: Education
Ditto to John, Steve, and Jim !!! Thank the Good Lord for the "Old Guys".. where would any of us be if it were not for the Original Old Guy, Buck Perry. I have known Don Dickson for almost 40 years and have know him to be an honest, intelligent and straight forward individual. Don is an ef...

Re: Lake Shelbyville and Panther creek lake
Jim, Excellent video, actually watched it several times. Very well done and a very good story being told. Sure is nice that the children LET you come along with them so you can watch them catch the fish. And nice bass at that! Some good lessons in the video, whether Em intended them or not. Have fun...

Re: Found a Structure Fishing Guide ?
Musky Joe, Best advice I can give you is to use your time to study Mr. Perry's written material. The "Green Book" and the "Home Study Course" has all the structure information that we need. There is a small booklet from nsoa.info, "Structure Situation Guide" for $6.00 p...

Re: Questions not answered at Breakline Club meeting on June
Clay,
Take John B. up on his offer. Best money you will ever spend. Not only will you learn; but you will enjoy the experience. Plus you don't have to make those long 1300 mile round trips from Tennessee to Florida to learn about those unique Florida type lakes.
Good Fishing,
TN Dave

Re: A great teacher
Steve, You are correct , January 1979. Good class and I realized how much more I had to learn about Spoonplugging even though I had been reading Mr. Perry's material for six or seven years. The best thing about the class was learning how to do everything in an orderly manner and knowing what kind of...

Re: A great teacher
Steve, Can't really tell from the photo; but judging from the size/build and from the statement about an early Spoonplugging teacher; I say it is Tommy Ferencek. Tom and Don Dickson were the first, real live, Spoonpluggers I got to meet. Took their class at Leesburg, FL, a long time ago; January 197...

Re: Trolling reels
I have not used the Penn 109's in 25 years or so. Despised those reels, had all sorts of problems with the line getting behind the spool. Only way to get the line out was to disassemble the reels, UGH!!! Lost a lot of Spoonplugs due to the line[both No-Bo and wire] breaking after gettting caught in ...
