John and Steve, Thanks for the terrific posting on Florida lakes. Spoonpluggers this is absolutely priceless information on Florida lakes. Along with John, and others, I sure wish I had known what is contained in the above post before I made my first trip to Florida. It is indeed a Spoonplugging les...

Spoonplugging Boats
Spoonpluggers, I was looking at aluminum jon boats the other day. Came across "Duck Hunting Boats". Perfect for Spoonplugging. The boats come in either a flat bottom or semi-vee hull. Well equipped with various lockers, "gun lockers", place for a bow-mount electric motor, flat fl...

Re: Spoonplugging with kids
As an addendum to the above post, keep in mind that children do not have the stamina that an adult has, nor does the child have the desire of a full blooded Spoonplugger who thinks nothing of fishing from daylight to dark thirty. (Think John Bales) The idea is to keep the fishing fun and when the ch...

Re: Spoonplugging with kids
Brian, Excellent video. Hannah is doing an outstanding job of handling rod and reel. I have seen adults that could not do as well as she does. Nothing like fun fishing for a child or grumpy old guys. Thanks for taking a child fishing; consider that the trip is an investment in a lifetime. Good Fishi...

Re: Muskkegon Outing Part I and Part II
John and Jim, Another excellent video and one that needs to be studied for all of the good information contained. Several years ago the hot item in fishing was trees, trees, trees and a few stickup thrown in for good measure. All the TV guys, the tournament heroes, and the outdoor writers, gave unto...

John,
A belated Happy 60th Birthday. Can't believe it. Guess I will have to quit referring to you as a young kid Spoonplugger from Indiana! My, Oh, My, how times does slip away.
Take Care and Good Fishing,

Re: In need of a boat
Dave the CG Auxiliary course is excellent; I took it when I was in high school. Of course that was back in the days of square riggers and galleys  An abridged version of Chapman's book was given as part of the class. James, Very funny. Before long you will be telling us that you helped Columbu...

Re: In need of a boat
Consigliere, I mentioned some books on boating and did not give any titles; here are a couple that I have found helpful. (1)" Chapman Piloting and Seamanship"; standard by which all other such books are judged. Updated annually. Covers just about everything relating to boating. Good refere...

Re: Buck's Baits 1991
Jim, Thanks for posting the video. Brought back a lot of memories. I, too, was there about 1980. Like to have never found the shop. It was non-descript at best, with trees and brush grown up all around it. No sign. No nothing. Had to call to find the shop to get directions (I had kept driving past, ...

Re: In need of a boat
You guys really like the Ranger tiller models. Out of curiosity how do they handle big waters? What kind of chop can you comfortably troll in? Have a 23ft CC Wellcraft for Lake Ontario and even it is too small sometimes. Never did answer your question. My experience is that the 680T is comfortable ...

Re: In need of a boat
Everything Bink said as to the sea worthiness of the 680T Ranger. I, too, have used a 680T for 27 seasons and the boat will handle just about any water that one would want to fish. However, common sense and good reasoning should always be foremost in your mind when fishing The Great Lakes or any rea...
