Re: Pre fronts Post fronts

D-wayne, "We all (as in all life forms) will forgo safety for food,, and at times in our lives we will forget about food and safety for reproduction." I know this applies to me for sure in my late teens and early twenties. But I always "hoped", that like a hybrid musky, it was a ...

Re: Pre fronts Post fronts

<t>Hal,<br/> I live in Southeast Wisconsin. Very similar weather situation. As you know, once summer comes along we do get several days between fronts sometimes. Also, the intensity of each front weighs in on the reaction of the fish. The textbook model Jim and Buck give is a full blown change from ...

Re: Study

Brian knows his stuff. My understanding from past readings on that division for warm water/cold water species is a temperature of 55 degrees. Panfish/LMB above and Walleye, Musky, Cisco... below.
That all said, I'm with John, Brian, et al, use the bottom structure as your target.

Re: Study

Hal, If I had John living that close I would surely figure out a way to get together with him. I'm lucky to have some great Spoonpluggers like Jerry, Brett, and Gino nearby. We also are having some heavy rain here. Snow is almost gone. I just can't wait for open water. I'm planning a trip to Beaver ...

Re: Another phone conversation

John, One layer removed, I am all jacked up after talking to you last week. Each time we talk I gain insight and can't wait to put my new knowledge to test (darn frozen water). Also, I always look forward to the National Newsletter. Great information from experienced Spoonpluggers. With that, I alwa...

Re: Study

Hal, My basic understanding is once a solid Thermocline develops it should be treated as "the bottom". You will seldom see most species of fish below that level. The guy that can really give you the insight is Jerry Borst, a guy that fishes deep for a living. Others here (John Bales, Steve...

Re: Study

Gotta love it. As I do each winter ( Because it's cold here Steve), I read the Green Book and the Study Course, the ABC's of Trolling by Carl Malz and the Daily Guide by Dickson. Additionally I watch the tapes by Buck, Dickson, and Bales. I definitely learn something new or gain a new insight each a...

Steve,
How do you typically present lures in a structure situation like this? I'm thinking casting.

Re: new technology

Steve, you are right on. During my time in the Army I saw the accuracy of GPS get better and better. Initially GPS was internally made inaccurate for civilians. Those days are over. Given good weather, GPS is truly spot on.

Re: new technology

John, I think we are on the same page. As far as why I think GPS is spot on let me give you a real life example. Four years ago I marked multiple cribs on Lake Geneva using my side imaging after Brett fished there. If we had open water today, I could "tell" my Terrova to take me there and ...

Re: new technology

John, you really bring up a great topic, technology. I am a huge fan of it. I have the good stuff; Humminbird Helix 10 SI and a Minnkota Terrova with I-pilot Link. The stuff is incredible. I can use my side imaging and locate a break (crib for example), Mark a waypoint, and my Terrova will take me r...

Interesting! How far out does it extend into the lake and what kind of depths? Have you mapped it?
