Re: Lake of the Week
Bill, I will take the big bend in the river in the top right of the map along the feeder creek. I'll work main channel cuts in this area and then work my way into the feeder creek to fish the north facing point. It's a lot of area for just one guy but I'll call Jerry Borst and just follow behind him...

Re: New meet and greet forum!
All, In the late summer of 2009 I started ramping up my time on the water quite a bit and soon I started to become frustrated with my fish/hours on the water ratio. One day a friendly fisherman stopped me on the water to chat. I had 1 musky in 3 days of fishing the lake, he had 3 muskies in 3 hours....

Jim,
Just watched this again. Gets my vote for best video of 2011. I especially love when he sees it in the net. A classic.

Re: This weeks lake of the week
Wow. The big structure coming off the east shore catches my eye first. The 2 points facing south off the end of it as well as the one coming off the north end. I would map all the way around the deep water on this feature to start. Next, on the west side of the lake there looks to be a couple nice s...

Re: Mapping and Interpretation Part 2
"BUT the terrain and the make-up of the lake told me that productive structures would be few and far between." I'm assuming he thought this because the terrain was flat and unchanging and in the make-up of the lake there were not many feeder creeks and no noticeable turns in the channel fr...

"The water color was perfect for maximum growth" - I've overlooked this. Was he saying that better color = better growth? Or maybe someone can offer their thoughts in general on how they can (or how Buck could) sniff out one body of water for maximum size bass over another. I've been wonde...

I am having a difficult time right now not being able to fish. One thing I've been doing to pass time is reading all the old posts on the forum. Pretty sick, but I've learned quite a few things. And when I came across this post it really made my day: From John Bales, back in 2005, on the 101 forum, ...

Re: Flood Plain Reservoirs
I guess I should add that a big factor in how the fish move from sanctuary to the shallows in flatlanders is the common delta situation that "blocks" the fish from moving further shallow b/c fish will not move up and then "down" again. The delta will be as far as the go. At the i...

Re: Flood Plain Reservoirs
-The home of the fish is the deepest water in the area.
-Fish won't use nice shoreline structure if there is not a path from the sanctuary
-The intersections provide a pathway to the shallows

Re: Questions from South Africa
#1 - you won't be concerned about this when you start catching fish. anyway, the motor gets their attention, which is good. now think in terms of line length and activity level of the fish - shorter line for aggressive conditions, longer line for slower conditions. in other words the motor sound wil...

Re: Water Color, Weed Lines, Bottem Conditions
I love these posts, thanks for putting us to the test. I should clarify my last answer - I just meant that in extra clear water I've been known to skip the first 3 sizes. I'll put the 500 on to start most days, but on extra clear water I'm skipping a few steps. Not saying it's right. In fact, on occ...

Re: Water Color, Weed Lines, Bottem Conditions
okay, let's try this one.. 1. Clear to extra clear water. What type of bottom conditions are likely to be present? multiple bottom conditions, rock/sand/weed/muck. weed line starting around 5' and running out up to 15-20', depending on the seasonal weather -If water is light and/or dark yellow green...
